Favorite Deep Ellum Beer and Why?
I love the Dallas Blonde. It truly is really easy to drink, while still having quite the personality. It pairs with family get-togethers and tailgates, as my versatile sidekick. It also goes great with pretty much anything I make for dinner. And, the can is a party in itself! What more do you want!?
You Have a Whole Day Off… What Are You Doing?
In musician land, there are no “off” days. Artists can always write songs, work on the never-ending to-do list, or create content. If I chose not do anything music or career-related for a whole, I bet you that I would start another business. I’m not kidding (I’ve done it!). I’m wired to work on my passions, and being an entrepreneur around the clock runs through my veins.
On the rare occasion I do separate from work to recharge, I like to find a desert and ideally do the following: I’d wake up and journal, read a book, do some yoga, go hiking, find the best local coffee shops and restaurants, and end the day at a local brewery or winery. I think it’s more important than ever to support people locally who are doing a great job in their communities *insert cheesy line here about supporting a Texas craft brewery*.
Where Do You Find Inspiration for Your Music?
I have always thought of songs as puzzle pieces that come from somewhere other than myself – aka a higher power! I do feel it’s my obligation to sit down and work out those songs and fit them all together, but inspiration is all around us, gifted to us by something bigger than ourselves. (I also love a little social media drama from other people’s lives to draw upon when I don’t have enough of my own. Hehe.)
What’s Something Your Fans Might Be Surprised to Learn About You?
My world revolved around volleyball when I was younger. I hurt my shoulder pretty bad, and took that as a sign to not pursue a lot of collegiate offers that I was getting, and instead pursue music! I was 5AAAAA Player of the Year and Gatorade Player of the Year for New Mexico, and I hung up the knee pads and learned how to play guitar in college. It was an identity shift that I’m so glad happened when it did.
